What is Ethernet?
Ethernet has been used for decades, but the technology has grown exponentially in terms of capability since its introduction. Ethernet is a method of communication used by computers to send and receive data over copper or fiber-optic cables. It is a multiple access technology, which means it can provide network access to many customers at the same time. The entire bandwidth is available to each user on a contention basis.
Ethernet’s cost-effectiveness, ease of use, simplicity, familiarity, and bandwidth agility have driven Ethernet technologies to become the backbone of most private data communications infrastructures. Ethernet networks are now very common in businesses both large and small.
