T1 vs. DSL- Speed and Access
Business grade DSL connections quite commonly operate at 1.5 M X 256k or 3.0 M X 256k. A T1 line operates at 1.5M X 1.5M. Another limitation of cable and DSL is that these connections are shared. Due to oversubscription, your speeds may vary at peak times. A T1 line is your dedicated access to the internet and your bandwidth will always be the same.
While DSL providers reuse the same lines for many connections, T1 lines are specifically reserved for the sole subscriber. This guarantees the amount of available bandwidth at any given time on any given day. Leased lines guarantee bandwidth for network traffic, making them ideal for businesses which rely on network connections to carry out daily operations.
