Internet Safety and Your Children

Protecting your children from all of the filth and danger that is potentially out there on the Internet is an important part of being a parent in this day and age.  There are some things that every parent should do and things that they should tell their children to make sure that they are as safe as possible and are able to enjoy the Internet as a fun tool and explore all of the learning opportunities that it has to offer.

Let your children know to not give out personal information or personal photos online.  Strangers can use this info and pictures to their advantage.  Also let them know that they should never go to meet anyone that they have been talking to on the Internet, it is not safe.  If a stranger sends your child an email or instant message including any sort of file, let them know to not open it and to delete it.  Changing the child’s email address or instant messenger name is also a good idea.

There a lot of things that could happen to a child if they are not properly monitored when using the Internet.  Make sure to enforce the rules that are mentioned above and enforce any of your own as well.
