What is a DSL Modem?

DSL, digital subscriber line, modems are pieces of equipment that are used to connect a computer to a phone line.  The phone line that the modem is connected to must also be DSL.  This phone line that is connected to the router is a necessity in order to receive DSL service.

DSL is the technology that transports high-bandwidth information, used to operate internet and phone services.  The modem is more often than not, located on the outside of the computer.  To be able to receive an internet or phone connection, the DSL modem is wired to comply with the Ethernet port.
