Calling Capabilities of VOIP

Filed under: VoIP — admin @ 11:27 am

You may be wondering if it is possible to place calls to individuals who have traditional phone service, and do NOT have VOIP service. The answer actually depends on who your Voice Over Internet Protocol provider is. For the most part, most providers allow you to call traditional analog phones from your VOIP phone or computer. When calling an analog telephone, the digital signal your VOIP phone creates is converted back into an analog audio signal, capable of being received by the conventional telephone.

How does VOIP Work?

Filed under: VoIP — admin @ 10:37 am

Traditional analog phone connections use analog technology. Simply put, the technology used in Voice Over Internet Protocol works by converting your voice from this analog signal into a digital signal, which can then be sent over the internet. If you are calling a regular phone, the digital signal is converted back into a traditional analog signal before it reaches the destination.

There are three main methods in which Voice Over Internet Protocol is used. The first involves using a VOIP-capable telephone. Alternatively, VOIP service can be used with a traditional telephone by incorporating the use of a VOIP adaptor. Yet another way in which VOIP is made available is by simply using your PC equipped with the proper software.

VOIP Equipment - Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA)

Filed under: VoIP — admin @ 1:09 pm

VOIP, or Voice Over Internet Protocol, telecommunication is becoming more and more popular due to its attractive features, low cost, and high sound quality. Replacing your traditional telephone service with VOIP service is actually quite simple. All one needs is a broadband Internet connection and the proper equipment.

The equipment necessary to provide one with VOIP service varies, depending on how one would like to go about acquiring the service. There are several options available to consumers, and many people find that an Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) is a good solution.

With an ATA, you can still use your existing house phone for VOIP calls using the adapter. The ATA is a small, inexpensive device which accepts the traditional phone line and converts it to a proper signal which can be used by the VOIP service. Using the ATA is an alternative to purchasing a new VOIP-ready phone.

What is VOIP?

Filed under: VoIP — admin @ 1:57 pm

Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP), sometimes called Phonom, is the newest commercial method of sending and receiving voice and data signals. Sometimes referred to as IP telephony, VOIP service allows the user to send and receive telephone calls through a broadband internet connection, rather than a traditional analog telephone line.

There are several benefits of using VOIP phone service over traditional phone lines, including a less expensive price tag, additional features, and higher sound quality. Newer VOIP technology converts analog voice into digital data “packets.” This “packet-switching” is the same method by which the internet is delivered to computers.
